What to Wear Today (2023 edition)

Your alarm goes off, you drag yourself out of bed (after hitting snooze 3 times). After mustering all your energy to brush your teeth and hop in the shower, you open your closet and realize…you have nothing to wear. We’ve all said or thought this at some point but we know it’s furthest from the truth.

Regardless of how disorganized your closet may be, there is always an appropriate outfit you can put together, depending on where you’re headed. When we say ‘I have nothing t wear,’ we typically mean, ‘I’m not in the headspace to put together a cute outfit right now so I’m unsure of what to wear.’ There, I fixed it for you.Post ImageAs someone with too many clothes to fit into my closet, I can forget about some clothing items for a while. This makes me think my wardrobe is lacking when in fact is my organization of clothes that needs improvement. Being able to see all or most of your clothing in one place makes it easier to put together a stylish look. That’s why I encourage you to lay out the items in your closet according to season.

In today’s blog post, I would be helping you decide on what outfit to wear today. I would be sharing some great outfit ideas for different occasions to serve as a guide. I would be splitting this post up into looks for different scenarios so as to cover most dress codes. Whether you’re headed to the office, on a date, a beach vacation or just chilling at home, there would be a look for you. Regardless of your body shape, these are looks you would be able to pull off like a pro.

1) What to wear to the office today

Whether you’re one of those who has to work from a physical office or If you’re fortunate to be able to work from home, I’ve got some good options of outfits for you. These are easy looks you can put together without much thought. I am sure you already own all of the clothing items mentioned. i) Blouse + pencil skirt

This is a classic look you can pull off if you want to look more dressed up at the office. Pair your black pencil skirt with different colors of blouses to create different outfits. During the colder months, you could complete your look with a pair of tights and a trench coat.

During the sunny weather, opt for a blouse with short sleeves in a bright color to add some life to your outfit. Throw on a pair of flats and you’re good to go. This outfit is a good choice if you’re commuting.

ii) Blazer and pants

If the dress code is business casual, you can pair any of your structured blazers with a pair of fitted pants or trousers to create an easy professional look. Swap your pants for dark wash jeans to create a look appropriate for Casual Friday. Complete your look with a pair of loafers or flats.

A simple white t-shirt or blouse could be worn underneath your blazer. During the cold months, opt for a pair of ankle boots such as Chelsea boots to keep your feet warm. A fitted sweater is a great option to wear under your blazer to maintain this perfect outfit.

iii) Midi dress

Midi dresses can be worn to create the perfect outfit on a day you really want to stand out at the office. During the summer months, a short-sleeved floral dress can be paired with flat sandals or heels to create a chic office look. Choose dresses in bright colors when it’s warm outside.

If you have important meetings to attend to, choose dresses in neutral colors. Adding a blazer on top of your dress is a great way to elevate your midi dress outfit. Throw on a pair of black pumps and you’re good to go.

2) What to wear on a date today

Whether it’s a first date or 100th date, you want to look and feel your best on date night (or afternoon).

i) Crop top and jeans

Add some sexiness to your date outfit by showing a little belly skin. A crop top is a great choice of top if you want to keep your outfit casual but sexy. You don’t even have to show belly if you don’t want to. You can do this by opting for a longer crop top or really high-waisted jeans. The best pair of jeans to create this look with is a pair of skinny jeans. I have mentioned previously on this blog that there are skinny jeans for any body type out there. Complete your look with a leather jacket and a pair of high heels.

ii) Little black dress

This is every woman’s fool-proof clothing item. When all else fails, turn to your trusted little black dress. It’s easy to style it with just a pair of heels or sleek ballet flats to create a chic look. If your date involves celebrating a special occasion, slip into one of your LBD’s and a pair of strappy heels.

Accessorize with hanging gold earrings and a clutch purse. During the cold months, feel free to add a pair of black tights underneath for warmth. You could also add a shawl or cardigan on top of your dress.

iii) Sweater dress

Sweater dresses come in both casual as well as dressy styles. For a winter date night, choose a form-fitting sweater dress in a color that compliments your skin tone. Rich and vibrant colors look amazing on darker skin while soft colors bring out fairer skin tones.

Add a belt on top of your sweater dress to make your waist appear even smaller. Complete your look with a pair of heeled ankle boots. Tall boots such as knee-high boots or over-the-knee boots are better options if your dress is shorter.

3) What to wear for a casual outing today

If you don’t have much time to put an outfit together to step out briefly, here are some great options. You most likely already own all of the items listed but if you’re looking to add to cart, click on any of the images to shop.

i) Tank top + jeans

Pairing a simple tank top with your favorite pair of jeans is an instant hit. If you’re headed for a quick trip to the mall, a pair of boyfriend jeans is a great option. Making it to brunch with the girls? Throw on a light jacket or blazer for the low temperature.

You could complete your look with a pair of white sneakers or sandals for a chic look on a sunny day. This is also a look you could wear to run some errands, grab a coffee or head to the park in. A pair of denim shorts are a great idea during the summer months.

ii) Mini dress

Keep things sexy by choosing a mini dress and showing off your legs. Mini dresses are meant to be worn if you’re not shy to show lots of skin. However, you can always add a pair of tights or leggings underneath to cover up. Add a denim jacket to your outfit and a crossbody bag to show off your unique style.

iii) Maxi skirt and tee

Maxi skirts are a wardrobe staple that can transition from the hot summer days to the chilly winter evenings. Pair your long skirts with a basic t-shirt or simple top for casual summer events such as museum visitations or for brunch. A graphic t-shirt is a great choice If you want to add some edge to your look. Complete it with a moto jacket and a pair of combat boots.

4) What to wear at home today

As someone who spends more than 60% of her time at home, I am quite the pro when it comes to putting together outfits to stay at home in. Changing outfits on a daily basis just to stay at home may not make sense to some but you have to see it as another opportunity to wear something else in your closet.

i) Lounge set

A lounge set is the best outfit you can wear if you’re working from home and wish to stay ready in case there’s a last-minute video call. There are so many colors and style you can choose from nowadays so dressing up to stay home does not have to be a daunting task.

ii) Shorts + tank top

If you’re more of a sexy dresses while in the comfort of your home, this is the easiest way to style yourself. No need for layers of clothes if you live by yourself. Pair your old short shorts with a tank top or crop top of your choice. On a gloomy day, you could choose a chunky sweater instead of a tank top to laze about.

iii) Kaftans

If conservative dressing is your personal style, then kaftans are the kind of clothes you need in your home wardrobe. Kaftans are great if you’re entertaining guests at home or if you may need to step out at some point. They’re a great balance of casual and dressy. They also come in many colors as well as different lengths.

I hope this post can serve as a style guide of sorts you can always refer to when you ‘don’t have anything to wear.’ The rule of thumb is start simple with your basics. Think tank tops, jeans, blazers and maxi skirts. You’ll be sure to be able to come up with a great outfit just like the experienced stylists do.
