6 Tops to Wear with Leather Pants or Leggings

With temperatures slowly starting to rise and sunset occurring later and later, now is the perfect time to plan your wardrobe for the next warmer seasons. Leather pants are a great item to use as a transitional piece across different seasons.

During the colder months, they provide a little extra warmth and during the Spring, they remain a great option of pants to wear during the not-so-hot weather.

As someone with thick thighs and thicker calves, I know how much of a struggle it can be to find leather leggings that are easier to slip on and don’t make you feel like you’re suffocating. Leather pants and leggings can be a struggle to get on when you are curvier, and I understand that struggle. That’s why in this post, I would be including curve-friendly options of leather leggings and pants.

In today’s blog post, I would be sharing some great leather pants outfits you can easily put together using tops and outerwear you most likely own. It all starts with the right pair of leather pants. Hopefully by the end of this post, you would come to see why leather pants and leggings are such a wardrobe staple. They can be just as easy to style as a pair of jeans.

I find that a pair of black leather pants add some sass and sexiness to any outfit. They elevate a look more than a pair of black jeans or black dress pants ever could. You could choose a pair of tight leather pants for a sexy look or a pair of wide pants for a more formal yet relaxed look. Black leather leggings are more informal and tend to be paired with longer tops and dresses, similar to regular leggings.

Before we dive into the different ways to style a pair of leather pants or leather leggings, I think it’s important that I share some great options of both, which you can check out. This would come in handy if you’re on the hunt for the perfect pair of leather pants or leggings.

Do note that when I say leather pants or leather leggings, I’m referring mostly to faux leather. A pair of genuine leather pants or leggings can set you back a few hundred or even close to a thousand dollars and most of us cannot afford that. I would be sharing genuine leather as well as faux leather options in this post. However, most would be faux leather.

i) Banana Republic

Banana Republic is one of the platforms that offers leather pants made from genuine leather. Switch your office wear up by pairing your button-down shirt with a pair of straight leather pants. The cut and style are appropriate enough for more professional environments. THESE ones also come in 3 great neutral colors.

iii) Nordstrom

Probably the most popular pair of faux leather leggings is the Spanx Faux Leather leggings. They have stellar reviews on Nordstrom as well as other websites. If you can’t afford a $500 pair of leather leggings, they’re the next best thing. A great way to style them is with an oversized shirt or sweater. You can dress them up or down depending on the occasion.

iv) Gap

Gap offers a nice range of leather pants made from vegan leather. They carry a range of leather pants that are actually jeans with a faux-leather outer. They are stretchy and high rise, making them flattering on a curvier body type. THESE brown leather pants are my favorite. They would look great with a fitted sweater during the winter season or a halter top in the Spring or Fall.

v) Shein

Shein does not carry any real leather pants or leggings so if you are anti real leather, they’re a great place to check out. A lot of times, you can’t easily spot the difference between real and faux leather pants, unless you’re a connoisseur. Faux leather leggings such as THESE ONES could be paired with t-shirt dresses and oversized shirts to create quick trendy looks.

Now that you have a good idea of where to shop for faux leather trousers and leggings, let’s talk about the different outfit ideas you can create. You will see why leather trousers and leggings are the basis of a chic edgy look. Most of the items mentioned are probably already in your closet – which is great news in this economy!

What to wear with leather pants

1) Fitted sweater

An easy way to style your leather pants during the colder months is to pair them with a fitted sweater. This is a sexy look you can rock for date night or for a night out with the girls. A pair of straight leg or skinny leather pants work best for this look. Choose a sweater in a nice Fall color to add a pop of color to your look.

Complete your outfit with a pair of high heels if you’re headed for a nice evening. White sneakers could also be worn with your favorite leather pants for a more casual look. During the colder months, a pair of combat boots could also be worn to create a casual vibe. Add a black leather jacket if you’re dressing for the cooler weather.

2) Crop top

Crop tops and leather pants make for quite the sexy combo. This is an outfit you put together when you want to show off your body. To make your waist look even smaller, opt for a pair of high-waisted pants or leggings. If you’re not comfortable showing some belly, you could also opt for a longer crop top or choose tank tops.

Add a denim jacket if you’re headed for a more casual event and it’s not quite summertime weather. For a head to the club in, wear leather pants in the color of your choice with a tube top and a pair of heels. This is bound to get you lots of attention. 3) Blouse

Make your leather bottoms more office-appropriate by pairing them with a nice blouse. Opt for a blouse with a long sleeve during the colder months and short-sleeved blouses during the summer months. Choose a pair of leather pants with a loose fit to avoid too much of a distraction at work.

If the dress code I smore conservative, pair your leather pants with a blouse in a neutral color and a black blazer. This creates a more subtle look and would make your outfit more professional. If your pants are particularly tight, try going for a longer blouse that covers your behind at least.

4) T-shirt

The perfect way to style your leather pants and leather leggings for a casual event or outing is to pair them with a simple white shirt. This is a failproof look for those times you’re not sure what to wear. It’s easy to dress this look up with an oversized blazer or dress it down with a denim shirt. For a great casual look, choose a graphic tee to create a chic and edgy look.

During the cooler months, you could complete your look with a pair of chunky boots and a long coat. During the warmer months, try a pair of sneakers or flats to complete your black leather pants outfit. A plain white tee is already a must-have in every wardrobe so you most likely own one.

5) Oversized Sweater

Oversized sweaters in neutral colors can be paired with black pants for some everyday wear you can rock in the cold weather. One of my favorite faux lather leggings outfits involves styling an oversized sweater in a solid color with a pair of black leggings. This is a look you can wear to school or to a coffee shop during the colder months.

If you opt for leggings instead of a pair of faux leather pants, you make it easier to complete your look with knee-high boots. The skinnier your leggings or pants, the easier it is to tuck them into your boots. Add a wide belt on top of your sweater to create more of an hourglass shape. Headed to a more formal event? Stand out with a pair of statement earrings.

THIS is a great corporate look to create with a pair of leather pants.

6) Button-down shirt

Here is another great way to style a pair of faux leather pants for a more formal setting. Grab one of your white button down shirts and pair it with leather pants with a looser fit. You can complete your look with a pair of heels or ankle boots, depending on the season. Switch into a pair of ballet flats once you get to your desk if you’re all about comfort.

Tuck in your white dress shirt and add a leather blazer for a more formal look. Take your outfit from office to happy hour by opting for a long shirt. An oversized shirt works better with a pair of leather leggings. Add a belt on top to accentuate your waist and some simple accessories. Feel free to play around with different colors of shirts to show your personality.

I hope you now have a god idea of the best tops to pair with your leather pants and leggings. As you can see, you most likely own these tops and so putting together a chic look should be easy for you. It’s high time you start incorporating more (faux) leather looks into your wardrobe. Let me know which of these was your favorite.
