After my myomectomy, I could be spotted several times a week in a longer high low top given I was not able to wear pants for some weeks so I understand the importance of owning a high low shirt.
In today’s post, I would be providing you with some high-low outfits you could easily put together using items you most likely already own. To start off though, I would like to share some of my favorite high low shirts which you could consider purchasing if you’re on the hunt for the perfect shirt to add to your wardrobe. I will split them into 2 categories: dressy high low tops and casual high-low tops.*Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, which means that I get a small commission if you decide to make a purchase through the links, at no cost to you.
Dressy high low tops:
When it comes to dressy high low tops, I tend to go for ones with long sleeves versus short sleeves. This chiffon one would be great to style up with skinny jeans and heels thanks to the flowy nature of the top. The burgundy option would look so good in the Fall!If you’re headed for a really fancy event and wish to add a little va va voom to your look (without all the Spanx), this off-shoulder high low top will definitely do the trick. I love the exaggerated high-low hemlines and the different colors it comes in. All you need are a pair of statement earrings to complete the look.
Just be sure to always check the size chart when making online purchases. This will ensure you get the best and most flattering fit.
Casual high low tops:
Casual high low tops could be worn to football games, brunch or even to class. This one is a great example of how to make a high-low shirt look like loungewear. Definitely a more casual vibe. I could see it being paired with boyfriend jeans or leggings.Another great casual high low option is this short-sleeved high low shirt, which actually comes as a set. Who say you must wear leggings or jeans underneath your high low top? The high low hem on this shirt is less exaggerated and works great for those who prefer a less dramatic cut.
Now that I’ve shared my favorite high-low tops, let’s briefly discuss styling these comfortable shirts.
1) High low top with skinny jeans
This is probably the most popular way to style a high low top. The skinny nature of the jeans help to make the look appear cleaner and avoid a bulky outfit. The key to styling a high low top is to wear a bottom that isn’t heavy or else your overall look could come across as messy, bulky and overwhelming. Due to the nature of a very long high low top, you may also want to opt for higher shoes such as strappy wedge sandals, especially if you’re petite.Image source here
This is also the perfect time to add some color to your wardrobe and I invite you to experiment with a high low shirt in a bold color or pattern while keeping the rest of your outfit pretty neutral.
2) High-low top with black leggings
Another popular style option when it comes to high low tops is to add a pair of black leather leggings. This would make you look even leaner and taller, especially if you add a pair of heels to the mix. The design and cut of a high low top accentuates the waist while allowing the belly to be free, similar to a peplum top, thus creating a smaller natural waist, regardless of whatever bulge you may be hiding.Get the look HERE
A dressy high-low look should always be complimented with bold accessory pieces such as hoop earrings or an elaborate necklace. Consider going for a pair of Spanx faux leather leggings, which are known to provide some tummy control and don’t roll down spontaneously.
3) High low shirt with boyfriend jeans
For a more casual high low outfit, opt for a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans. The trick is to make sure your jeans aren’t too baggy if you’re on the shorter side, or else your frame risks getting lost in your outfit. You could add a skinny belt on top of your shirt as well for a more snug fit and to accentuate your waist if you feel like you’re swimming in your outfit.Get the look HERE
4) High low shirt with shorts
I particularly love this option when I’m headed to a beach barbecue because I get to eat all the burgers I want while maintaining a stylish demeanor. Short sleeve or sleeveless high low shirts would give you the best fit when pairing with shorts. You could throw on a pair of ballerina flats or flat sandals to complete this super casual outfit.Image source here
5) High low top with a skirt
Make your high-low look more appropriate for a formal function by wearing a skirt instead of pants. A midi skirt works just fine as a mini skirt may be too short and a maxi skirt may be too much. If you choose a skirt in a similar color to your top, it could even look like you’re wearing a high low dress! The perfect way to complete your look is with a statement piece; which could be a necklace, earrings or a beautiful clutch.
I hope I have been able to show you how you can partake in the high low trend. It’s a look that works great for women with a little belly and are not comfortable showing it. It’s also great for women who have either recently given birth or had surgery and want more loose-fitting pieces.
