Let’s start by answering an important question:
What is a tutu skirt?
Tutu and tulle skirts are used interchangeably nowadays however tutu skirts tend to be shorter in length. If you are unsure what a tutu skirt is in the first place, here is a brief explanation: a tutu skirt is a standard skirt worn by female ballet dancers, consisting of four or five layers of silk or nylon frills. Tulle is a type of fabric that’s a stiff, fine netting and is often used to make gowns and wedding veils. Tulle skirts are comprised of several layers of this fabric and can be short or long in length.

Tulle skirts tend to be worn for more special occasions requiring a more formal dress code. This is because they are very voluminous and add a lot of drama to any outfit. In today’s blog post, I would be giving you tulle skirt outfit ideas for how to rock a tulle skirt in manners flattering on any body type.

1) With a cropped top
With a tulle skirt already being so dramatic, if you wish to create a more casual look, you can opt for a crop top. Tulle skirts tend to be high-waisted and so if you are not comfortable showing your belly, a longer crop top should do the trick, Or you can wear a tucked in tank top to achieve the same look. A fitted top would draw a little bit of attention to your bust and waist and so go for this option if you are comfortable with those parts of your body. To complete this more casual look, choose a pair of ballet flats and you’re good to go.
2) With a denim jacket
To create a slightly edgy look with your tulle skirt, you can add a denim jacket to a simple top. This look works great with a black tulle skirt, giving your dramatic look a more casual vibe. I personally prefer going with a pair of combat boots when I wear a denim jacket with a tutu skirt. The contrast between the girly skirt and the more masculine boots creates a nice balance in the entire outfit.
3) With a bodysuit
Usually, the rule of thumb when it comes to styling a tulle skirt is to go with a more fitted top. This is because with the lower half of your body being swallowed up in layers of tulle, you need to balance things out on top. I mostly agree with this logic and that’s why bodysuits are a great option of tops to wear with a ballerina skirt. 4) With a graphic t-shirt
Headed back to the more casual tulle skirt look, wearing a graphic tee is a good way to give your tulle skirt some youthful street style. 5) With a black leather jacket

The contrast between the leather and the tulle really creates an interesting and captivating balance. If you’re pulling this look out for date night, complete it with a pair of black strappy heels and a black top. To relax things and turn this into a casual outfit, I dare you to throw on those converse sneakers.
6) With a sweater
A stylish way to to wear a tulle skirt during the colder months is to pair it with a warm sweater or cardigan. Adding a pair of leggings underneath your skirt would add an extra layer of warmth on a colder day while throwing on a suede jacket would be a great choice of outerwear if your sweater is thinner.
7) With a lace top
One of the most elegant ways to style a maxi tulle skirt is with a lace top. It really makes your look more dainty and feminine.
